Sorry if I spam your forum Wink

After I already got messages of six people who will not take part at the tournament when version 2.4.2 is played, I started to think about it again. Still, the most people want to play version 2.4.2, but now I am a little confused. Actually, there are only some possibilities in my opinion, please read them before you vote:

  1. 2.4.2 - All matches are played with 2.4.2
  2. SVN - All matches are played with SVN-beta
  3. Both - The players of the match may decide which version they play, therefore, there is always one 2.4.2 and one SVN-server. If the two players do not find a solution for them, the referee decides.
  4. Two halfs - 16 players play on SVN, 16 on 2.4.2 until the half finals, final's mode will be decided by a poll.

The poll runs five days. Please vote, do not write posts like "I choose 2.", if you write something, write your reason etc.

Greetings, Thalan

don't know if there should be a poll. Razz people love 2.4.2 because it hurts people who have lag.

I'm going for SVN, Equality for all! I believe equality in a tournament is vital and extremely important to people who have 100 pings or above. With no anti lag like in 2.4.2 they will suffer so badly the tournament will be ultimately decided for them before it's even began.

I would play on either, both have pros & cons. Antilag is better on one, sounds & potential stability are better on the other...

The aiming is only one aspect, hearing your opponent can be just as important sometimes...

I don't understand why anyone would drop out because it's not running a development version. That's crazy for so many reasons & these people have been playing with a poor antilag implementation for years...

At first "svn" means it is the code that is potentially untested. On all svn servers that i saw there isnt even a match time diplayed when the match is finished! But that means nothing because "svn" means just that it is a snapshot of the development: New features and bugs are added every day.

Additionally there are some other bad things about the svn version:
- the weapon sound
- the weapon model
- the effects that make it very hard to see anything when you activate coronas and maximize particle effects (ok, you can deactivate both)

Players with a higher ping will always have a disadvantage. And if both players have nearly the same ping they have the same chances. No antilag of the world can give a player with a 200ms ping the same chances as a player with a 30ms ping while still guaranty smooth gameplay for both players!

For me it is a clear case: I dont want to play some serious matches on a nearly untested and very ugly version of the game because some people think it gives them a better ping or better reaction by some magic.

For me I can't really aim properly on 2.4.2 servers. While I can keep up with people a lot easier on the SVN release. It's been tested by a lot of the community. Most of those are very knowledgeable with this kind of thing. Even I notice the huge difference, I don't see why people would prefer to play with lag rather than without unless it's to gain an unfair advantage over people.

To be honest if I lost on 2.4.2 I'll know it's the lag that hurt me. If I lost on the SVN I'll know I got beaten by someone better.

Thats the differences between the two.

EDIT: You know? Forget asking people. Community is like an organisation, you go high enough you always come to one person.

ask on the alientrap board for a developer to answer which version is more stable to play minsta on in a less lagged environment.

They will give you the right answers not us. We didn't make nexuiz we just play it Razz Thats how you can do the right thing for the tournament, discuss issues with the devs.

Also that leaves it to none of us to complain and cry about which version gets chosen, It can't be anymore fair than that.

Okay, finally I found a way which should fit all people's interest. SVN with 2.4.2 weapon model, sounds and "impact hole". There will also be the game time in scoreboard and the version will be stable. I hope this is really a good solution, please post your opinion.

Feo, I like the Nexuiz-community, would it really be better if I'd only be talking with the developers? I think even they don't know which version is "the best".

Can someone make the SVN relaese work like the 2.4.2 version + a functional aintilag?

Then everybody would have what he/she wants...

Really, u shouldn't make such statements....
I want to play 2.4.2 or 2.4 or whatever, because i always play it. So my choice has nothing today with unfair advantages..No matter if i have 50 ping or 200...

I didn't direct it at anyone ^ But I should make such statements there are players who will use it as an advantage. I didn't say you were one of them because I don't believe you are.

I honestly find it a bit odd that no one cared. But as soon as all the skilled players signed up everyone suddenly was desperate to play with lag.

Once again not aimed at anyone just some people. Not anyone here.

Sounds good but I think you have this yet to come, when it comes to complex issues such as decisions the community isn't the place to be getting them. Every community has people who secretly aren't community minded or work alone and use the community to achieve own personal goals.

I always prefer to discuss things I find wrong with the devs, Most thing's I've discussed in the past with the community has left me feeling as if there are quite a few people who are quite close minded in the "community" most the guys here (prophets) are nice though.

It's the same with any game, the community isn't a community it's a rivalry with everyone trying to get one up on someone else. Nexuiz with an influx of new people is rapidly becoming the new quake 3.

Finally after Fish said that he doesn't want to "mod down" svn, I checked it again, and I was pretty surprised. Anti-Lag is okay, it's working correctly, but that's the only thing which is okay in the beta version. I found tons of bugs and things that do not work, so finally I made my decision - The tournament will be played on 2.4.2 with Kringel's invisible and spawn mod, maybe with the tournament mod, if not, with some own mods to making it suitable for the players. Beneath the bugs or dislikes Kringel mentioned in his post, there are many other bugs, as I said already. Some of them are for example that some transport platforms do not work, the weapon does not turn invisible in invisible mode, HUD in spectator mode cannot be unshown etc. etc. This version is not playable in a tournament, even if the anti-lag is good - you people played years without it. All people are worse without anti-lag, so noone can abuse it, and even if it would be, life can't be fair always Wink If 2.5 or any other stable version with anti-lag is released, we are going to play on these.

This thread can be closed, sorry for it.
