Some Nexuiz devs obviously started to port Nexuiz to other platforms than the PC. As a commercial game. What I dislike there:

Apart form that it won't affect (the real) Nexuiz much as it's a seperate project. Except some new players, and a few developer less. Thanks god, the GPL forbids the source closing of (the real) Nexuiz.

According to the information that I read the pages alientrap I think that's IllFonic wishes to steal GPL Nexuiz source code and start commercially sold IllFonic's Nexuiz with new Unreal3 engine graphics for the Xbox platform, I think that this is not advertising for Nexuiz but it's IllFonic Nexuiz will have much better graphics site as we flood the game GPL Nexuiz,interesting would be to "sell" the GPL Nexuiz source code to unreal3 graphics engine that can also improve GPL Nexuiz PC platform , I think that the two companies merged under one company and improved Nexuiz as the best free game for Linux and Windows...

Don't they have to supply the source code? I mean its GPL right? How can you sell a open license? They say they upgraded the graphics, are those going to be GPL'd ?
And what about all the art, is that going into the console version as well?

As long as there's enthusiastic peeps out there to host servers and create new maps, models & mods, the nex we know will not die.
It's not for us to be concerned over licensing & what ifs, we've just gotta vaporise.

Doesn't seem to affect us. It's more a problem for those ppl who helped to develop Nexuiz GPL. I feel sorry for them, because they got betrayed somehow....

What a load of crap! Screw those console-fuckers. Who do they think they are, stealing nexuiz' sourcecode and not giving anything back to the community? Nexuiz is Nexuiz and will always be Nexuiz. What do they want to do to prevent that? Forbid us from using the "Nexuiz"-name? And how do they suppose to ENFORCE THAT when there are already numerous releases carrying the "Nexuiz"-name and probably many more to come in the future? Xonotic, who came up with THAT crap-name?
Everyone is blinded from the fact that this vermeulen-dude did so much for nexuiz. Of course, that's GREAT, but now he is making alot of MONEY out of something that's not his to begin with. Sounds all nice for him and I would probably be tempted to try the same, but that's no reason to accept this as a community of players and contributors. GPL means open source. Anyone can fork his own release from the existing source code. Him getting money from selling the nexuiz source-code is ridiculous, and this is why:
2) It is open source. There is not even a single person responsible for nexuiz development but rather an entire group of people. Thus, many other people contributed, so IF there is even such a possibility of selling open source nexuiz, then who exactly would have to be financially compensated? It is impossible to measure one individuals share into the nexuiz-project let alone the other tenths or hundreds that did over the years. I'm sure there must be many, many contributors who spend hours writing code or creating content and they get nothing out of this whole scam.
3) For them to prevent people from porting back code into the GPL nexuiz the console-version should become closed source. Code that is written as open source cannot become closed source without the permission of the author of each piece of code or content. Since there have been many contributers, they could not possibly have gotten permission from every single one.
No seriously, something smelly going on here. I don't really understand why people accept this crap, because there is absolutely no way anyone can tell us what we can or can't do with the nexuiz sourcecode.
The fact that it's even come this far is a bloody disgrace for the open source ideality. Nexuiz is a game made for the community BY the community and it should stay that way. If someone wants to make a console game out of that they should at least give back generously to the community that made the game to what it is. This includes even those that did not contribute content-wise. Without the players this game would not even exist.
THAT is what a community statement should reflect.
