nexuiz video

Painless is creating a Nexuiz video full of nice shots.

Unfortunately demos don't work on his rig so we're having to encode them for him use.

I don't know if he needs shots from more players right now, but it can't hurt.

At very least it's nice to see examples of other peoples play.

If i capture an ingame-demo i always use ultimate settings. If u want other settings, no problem.
upload your config and everything looks like your nexuiz

Maybe he means the nex beam, so that his vid is consistent?

I've managed to get the afternoon off so I've done Farewell & Monolith for Bansh, just uploading them now...

I don't mind encoding some more videos, I'm sure Spohst could use my script tho.

Painless, I know you've tried lots of techniques to play demos & they either don't work or crash. Could you give it one last try with this?

Just copy & paste into the OSX terminal. With any luck it should start playing a default demo. If it works, just substitute 'demo1.dem' with the name of another demo within ~/.nexuiz/data/demos.

Simple problem, no database file. Just run this 1'st as root/admin:

locate.updatedb

If you know the path to the 'nexuiz-osx-sdl' script you simply enter this into the OSX Terminal:

If you don't, copy & paste this into the terminal:

sudo locate.updatedb
LOC=`locate -r nexuiz-osx-sdl$`
${LOC} -demo +playdemo demos/demo1.dem

^ You will be prompted for your user password in order to create the missing file database (may take a minute or two as it's never ran before) which 'locate' requires.

You probably have to intstall some packages...

From what I understand, OSX doesn't have a root account by default, it uses sudo instead - so sudo should be installed. It uses locate.updatedb rather than updatedb (according to an old manpage). You certainly have 'locate', as it was trying to find the database...

So... Did it ask you for your password?
If so, try changing 'locate.updatedb' to 'updatedb'
If not... try as SU:

su
locate.updatedb

If that fails, try searching for 'nexuiz-osx-sdl' by whatever graphical means OSX no doubt provides & enter it's path manually.

You've already tried from the Nex console, so I don't know what else to suggest...

Well, we made the database, it can't find that file tho. I assume you've installed a 3rd party package, rather than unpacking the official release from AlienTrap?
